Molasses and Yeast From Wood
نویسنده
چکیده
One way to use the timber resources of our country more efficiently is to convert the refuse from logging and manufacturing operations into food. Research at the Forest Products Laboratory therefore is aimed in part at the conversion of wood to sugar solutions, which have been tested as livestock feed by several agricultural experiment stations. The investigations indicate that w^ood wastes can add materially to the supply of feed. For example, the dry and bark-free wood of logging and manufacturing residues contains 50 to 70 percent of carbohydrate material. When treated with dilute acids under steam pressure, the material can be converted to dilute solutions of simple sugars. The solutions, when evaporated and used as livestock feed, can release for direct human consumption some mon^ expensive food that is now fed to livestock while maintaining, or perhaps increasing, the supply of livestock products. The sugars also can be used to grow a yeast containing protein, fat^ and vitamins, which is suitable for human food or livestock feed, or they may be used as a source of solvents and chemicals at present being made from sugars suitable for human consumption. The carbohydrates of wood are of two types, cellulose and hemicelluloses. The cellulose portion, comprising about 50 percent of the wood, is more resistant to chemical action and is the

Preparation of Proper Culture Medium for Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii with Molasses and Animal Serum
Introduction: The purpose of this study was formulation and preparation of a proper culture medium for Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii with molasses and animal serum. Methods: A fully-crossed factorial design contain 5%, 10% and 20% of molasses (M) with 0, 1% and 5% animal serum (S) was used in this study. The pH of all culture medias were adjusted to 5.6 with acetic acid. The seed was ...

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of different levels of yeast Saccaromyses Cerveasia and molasses on chemical composition, nutritive value and degradability of Artiplex lentiformis silage. The levels of yeast Saccaromyses Cerveasia include: 0, 2.5 and 5 g/kg dry matter and levels of molasses include: 0, 10 and 15 precent were that added to Atriplex lentiformis silage. ...
متن کاملPacked bed techniques for accelerated aging of rum
Rum is a sugar cane spirit obtained by the distillation of molasses through yeast fermentation and subsequent aging in wooden barrels, where the spirit acquires its special flavor and aroma. Packed bed schemes were applied to the accelerated aging of rum samples. These involved maturation in contact with natural, toasted or chemically treated oak wood chips for 90 d and four secondary treatment...
متن کاملInvestigation of yeast performances in the fermentation of beet and cane molasses to ethanol production
___________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In commercial ethanol production producers often use sugarcane or sugar beet molasses as raw material due to their abundance and low costs. The most employed microorganism used for fermentation is Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast due to its ability to hydrolyze sucrose from cane or beet molasses i...
